Dark Eyed Junco
Dark Eyed Junco Trill - Recorded March, 2010 - Penrose, NC
This beautiful bird is one we always see in the Winter here in Western North Carolina. Homer took the photo above of one by a birdfeeder.
A medium-sized sparrow, the Dark-eyed Junco has a rounded head and a short, stout bill. They are usually dark gray or brown and feed on the ground. They breed in coniferous or mixed-coniferous forests across Canada, the Western United States and the Appalachians.
