August Cicada Calls Slowed Down
The electric sound of cicadas is the sound of summer to me. It means the temperature is hot and summer is in full swing. When I slowed down the recording of the August cicadas (above) you can hear even more clearly the electric buzz that reminds me of a transformer.
Neil Vigdor, Staff Writer for the Connecticut Post, wrote in an article on August 21, 2009 that the mating calls of the male cicada "can reach 120 decibels, the equivalent to a jet plane during take off." As the temperature rises, so do the calls of the males.
